    Happy New Year 2007!

Can't remember how many times i'd said "time flies" in the past two weeks. Seems it is pretty hard to face the fact that we are just getting another 365 days older. Well, i guess that is part of the colorful life, although it might not be the most beautiful part.

2006 was another big year for me, especially for the career changes. God know how did that happen yet indeed i quited my previous job and jointed the finance industry, which is relatively a new world to me. My wife said she is the driver for the move and i do agree. If there is anything she completely convinced me in the past year, switching to the bank is the one.

Some ppl told me that working for banks is quite laid back. I don't recall who said that so i can't kick his ass. Actually on my first day i started to attend meetings and get my hands on a project the day after. Well, i shouldn't whine because i got a nice boss at least. My manager is a really nice guy, and he is tall! You know usually tall guys, i mean really tall, 6'6+, appear not that smart, but he is different. Anyway, he takes care of his ppl.
Canadian Banks, big big big stories......Yet, there is still one thing i don't understand, how come Canadian banks used to be top 15 worldwide in the 70's while after those years of "efforts", they are down to the top 50? Yah regulations might have some negative impacts but that should only impact domestic operations, what about the international presence? To be or not to be, that is an issue......

It is always hard to make decisions...

I have to say, life itself is full of fun, and suppose to be joyful. Yet, as soon as it reaches a certain point where you got to make a decision, life becomes so headache!

Six years ago, I was suffering whether immigrate or not. On one side of the balance were my parents and all of my achievements in China, on the other side is an unexplored world full of risk. Arguing with myself, back and forth, I filed my application.

Fours years back, facing three offers from three universities in Canada and US, I could hardly make a choice. Which one to pick? I even could not set up my criteria, by ranking, tuition, post-graduation potential or location? Anyway, I ended up in Kingston, a nice quite little college town in Ontario.

Last week, got calls from two job agents, one lead is a marketing director for APAC, the other is a business analyst in another company. Making the situation more complicated, my boss just mentioned to me that he might send me to our APAC HQ, in Japan, Singapore or other place. Holy cow! All the sudden I got to evaluate all of those. Gee, decision, decision…Believe me Man, that is way harder than to say! Life might be boring whithout challenges, however it becomes confusing when there are choices...

I sort of like Canada now, the bloody cold, long, dark, snowy winter; hot, colourful, lazy summer; the money sucking taxes; the cheaper houses; public healthcare (although it may kill you by putting you on the waiting list), shy and quiet people and neighborhood, and etc. After all, I just enjoy it a lot. Should I give up all these to trade off a new, unknown career somewhere in APAC?

“Why not!” another me said in my mind. “over there you gonna leverage your background, language and many other values achieved in the past years! You will be more valuable over there rather than using your Chin-glish fighting for acknowledgement in Canada, and man, you know it!”, that me keeps saying, “and, remember, that is the place where your parents still live, anyway they will prefer staying there rather than moving to Canada. You know when they really getting old, your annual visiting will be ain’t enough! ”

Gosh, it is so hard! I step out of the office, drive home. While enjoy the green woods and flowers along the road, I turn on the radio.

“CBC news Washington DC reports, former Chinese diplomat XXX in Australia has DECIDED to come to DC…”

“Ontario Hydro Power just announced another power shortage alert today…their DECISION on increasing hydro price…”

“Bank Canada might increase the interest rate in September, specialist says this DECISION is going to hit real estate market…”

“CNN news reports a strong typhoon has caused million dollars damage in southeast China…Beijing DECIDED new budget for impacted areas… ”

“NHL players' association DECIDED to reopen the negotiation with the league…”

Man, why the hell there are so many DECISIONS have to be made???

“According to the report of STATSCAN, BC had the fasted economic growth rate in Q1, 4.1%, while the national average is 1.4%. The Finance minister of BC said this increase is most attributable to the trading business between BC and Asia Pacific…”

“MP XXX in Ottawa said that because of the bad human right record, and the lack of the transparency, Canada should not sell its enterprise to any State Owned Chinese companies…”

Hah, that is ironic, ehj? I do not think that MP knows what he is doing, pathetic!

Well, now back to my problem, finally, what DECISION should I make???

    15th Canadian National Kendo Championship

On July 2nd, drive all the way up to Montreal for the 15th Canadian Kendo Championship. Traffic started to pack up even before Oshowa, speed was under 40KM/H until Kingston. After Cornwall, we hit the traffic again! I guess that was because everybody was running into Montreal for the Jazz Fest.
Montreal is a very nice city, apparently has put more efforts on arts and culture. It is more European style. Comparing with Toronto, i have to say, Montreal is a better place for quality life, at least in Summer.
Saturday morning was the match. Frist round i fight a person from Univ of Waterloo. I was kind of relaxed because did not have enough sleep the night before (one of my roomates was really loud). In about 1 minutes, i got two MEN and won the game. I was trying to apply more Tayatari MEN, yet did not have much chance.
Second round it was a guy from JCCC, i believe i can beat him. However, lacking of experienices on how to deal with sticky person, i lost by two Kote.
Although i did not go as far as expected, our club won the team match. They put Etobicoke's name on the Canadian national team champion's record two times in the role already! Bravo!
For the competition of Team Canada, Robin made himself in, good for him! Sigi was almost there, i feel so sad for him. Both them are really nice guys, really wish they can both get into team Canada in 2008.
Etobicoke club won the 3rd place of Junior, 3rd place of Woman, 3rd place of Man, 1st place of Team, and 4th & 6th place of the round robin.
Practice will still be hold in summer but only once per week. I got to do more Hiya Subali. Duribility is a challenge now, especially fighting against those young students.
Bored back to work, missing Kendo tournament so much!
